GWINNETT SENIOR GOLDEN GAMES

DISCUS RULES & EVENT MANAGER NOTES

Each competitor will be allowed three attempts to throw a one (1) kg discus. Each competitor will be allowed one practice throw if he or she wishes. Practice throws will not count in the competition.

A line will be marked on the field. The competitor must not touch or cross this line for the throw to be valid. The competitor does NOT get another throw to replace an invalid attempt.

The longest valid throw for each competitor will be recorded and the three longest in each age/gender category will be rewarded with a medal.

The event manager will decide whether or not weather conditions are suitable for the event to be carried out safely.

MANAGER'S NOTES

1. Before the event takes place select an area that is suitable for the competition. Take into account the safety of each competitor and try to avoid damage to the playing field.

2. Make a line to define a valid throw.

3. We will need the following volunteers:

a. One to monitor whether or not a competitor touches or crosses the line.

b. Two or three volunteers to mark the point at which the discus first lands on the ground and to measure the longest throw.

c. Two more volunteers to return the discus to the start point.

4. Volunteers are usually competitors in the event. We trust them to be honest!

5. The manager will record the best attempt for each competitor and then determine the best throws in each age/gender category-then award the medals.

6. Don't forget to send in the results and take lots of pictures.
